Draper Knitting Company Canton, MA, USA
Draper Knitting Company, Inc is one of the very first textile mills in the United States. In 1851, James and Thomas Draper transported their family business across the pond, moving from England to Canton, Massachusetts. The Original Mill was named Canton Woolen Mills.
Today Draper Knitting (a wholly owned subsidiary of Draper Brothers Co. Inc. ) is lead by Kristin Draper, the company president. A sixth generation of Drapers, including Kristin, are now active in the continued growth of this great American Mill.
Draper is the only American Mill that produces three types of fabric formation under one roof - Conventional Circular Knits, High Pile Sliver Knitting, and Non-Woven Stitchbonding. Specialties include knitted high pile, jersey, napped fleece, terry cloth, and non-woven fabrics. Draper fabrics are used in many diverse areas including fashion items, performance wear, industrial products, and safety applications.
When you think of recycled, ecofriendly fabrics - think of Draper. Their trademark brand Ecopile is made of 100% post consumer recycled polyester, aka the soda bottle fabric. It was through Draper's relationship with Patagonia that the first ecofriendly pile was developed by Draper. More recently, The Vermont Teddy Bear Company came to Draper when they wanted to produce their "Go Green" bear.
